Feeling Like a Bit of an Alcoholic
I think that I currently have four different groups of girlfriends or moms that are trying to plan a girls night/wine night over a 10 day time frame + bachelorette weekend wedged in the middle. At what point should I call AA?
My new title of working "mom" is the biggest and most important one I have ever had. Mom's are always giving ... to our spouse, our child, our job... The road in life is long and demanding. Continuing this cycle of caring for others and neglecting yourself can be a short road to "compassion fatigue". It can be exhausting. We need to give ourselves time away to relax, escape and decompress ... but it needs to be the right kind of time. I will elaborate.
TWO THINGS:
YOU ARE WHO YOU SURROUND YOURSELF WITH.
WHAT IS YOUR BODY REALLY ASKING FOR?
I LOVE SOCIALIZING. I AM A SERIOUS EXTROVERT MEANING THAT I GAIN ENERGY FROM BEING AROUND PEOPLE. I LOVE MEETING NEW PEOPLE, GOING NEW PLACES AND BEING A PART OF ANYTHING HAPPENING IN THE CITY I LIVE IN. I JUST LOVE TO BE OUT. I ALSO CAN DO SOME DAMAGE ON A BOTTLE OF PROSECCO WITH SOME GIRLFRIENDS.
I continue to meet friends, women, young moms, clients many who struggle with health and Wellness. At the same time, many are very social people and enjoy spending time out with friends, often consuming alcohol... Self included. I get it. Sometimes you need to take time For ones self to just stop thinking about laundry, getting the baby to sleep, the presentation due at work by the end of the week... time away to just be.
But what does my body really want? Do I feel better after an evening of casual drinking with friends? Am I a better mom when I indulge like this? Am I working towards my long term goal of living a healthier life?
I won't be skipping these nights out with my friends... I appreciate relationships way too much to avoid these gatherings. However, I will be cognizant of what I am putting in my body understanding that it may impact my days to come to decide whether or not it is worth it.
I will also be the influencer in my circle that promotes healthy behaviors. I challenge you to do the same. If you want to be healthy, be around people that make health a priority. Do things for your mind, body and spirit that create strong vibes of confidence. We are all on this crazy roller coaster called life. we don't need a drinking binge to escape it... we are stronger than that.
Next time your mama friends are planning a girls night out... Depending on your mood; sweat your ass off in kickboxing, Get zen at yoga or shake your booty at a Hip Hop class.... Something different from your normal exercise routine that gets you to move together as a supportive group of friends.
